Winter/Summer Adjustments to your Skin Care Routine

Winter/Summer Adjustments to your Skin Care Routine

The months of January and February bring some extreme weather conditions on both sides of the world, so we should all have been prepared to change our Spring/Autumn skin care routines to the higher levels of protection needed in Summer/Winter.

High SPF's, hats and lots of water on the Australian side of the world and over in Europe and North America, protection against those biting winter winds.  Using thicker emolliants on our faces before heading out of doors will help stop some of the loss of valuable moisture (transepidermal water loss) and the reddening that comes from our fragile capillaries losing their elasticity, remaining dilated and therefore at risk of further damage.

Now that we, in the northern latitudes, have sealed our homes with double-glazing, our skins will become dryer as we turn our thermostats up.  So drink lots of water, use a humidifier if at all possible and maybe keep one window open a little so we are not living in a totally sealed environment.  Remember, if you notice your lovely wood furniture, floors and doors drying and cracks showing, your skin will be experiencing that too.
